Service Projects

Fort Wayne Area Council PTA Clothing Bank
The Fort Wayne Area Council PTA clothing bank was started as a PTA project many years ago. It provides a service to students in need of clothing for a variety of reasons. NO child is ever turned down.
Several thousand children in the Fort Wayne Community School District are in need of clothing each year due to the circumstances beyond their control.
The FWAC Clothing Bank PTA provides five complete outfits for school, plus underwear, socks, combs, brushes, coats, and toiletries.
The procedure for receiving clothing is as follows: the parent in need contacts the schools Case Manager and a form is completed. The child is taken by the Case Manager to the clothing bank and fitted. The process is entirely confidential and Case Managers usually bring the clothes to the child’s home, so again everything is confidential without embarrassing the student
The clothing bank is only open during the school year. The clothing bank is located at 2900 North Anthony Blvd. at the Memorial Baptist Church. It is overseen by an FWCS appointed coordinator, Jennifer Schuler.
There are 3 ways YOUR school can help!
Remember to pay your FWAC PTA Dues
These dues of $50.00 per year help to purchase new items like socks and underwear for children, as well as clothing for hard to stock ages and sizes.
Have a school-wide toiletry drive or clothing drive
The clothing bank is always in need of toiletries for the students they help. Consider setting a week or month aside to collect items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and more. These items are very inexpensive and go a long way. Other items that could be donated are gently worn clothing, appropriate for children grades K-12. No baby clothes are needed. Please accept only items that are in wearable condition.
3. Consider joining the FWAC PTA in our new event to help raise funds for the Clothing Bank, a 5K Walk on Saturday, August 21, 2010
Don’t just talk the talk...get a team together and walk the walk! All to support the FWAC PTA Clothing Bank on its mission to provide every child in need with quality clothing. More information will come, but please plan to support the FWAC PTA Clothing Bank.
